Gente Brazil was created in 2003 and is known as one of the few projects in Brazil where physical education, sports, dance and music are taught to students, with special educational needs (SEN), who live in areas of social risk in Niteroi and Rio de Janeiro.

In Rio, Gente Brazil serves children in particular from the Tavares Bastos Favela, which is situated in the south zone of the city in great social contrast to the richest areas. This is the only favela in Rio de Janeiro where there is no drug trafficking, this being the result of the common efforts of the NGOs, police and government.  Lessons are conducted in a police station, this has helped to build and maintain the relationship between the community and the local government of that area.
