Situated in the Labone area of the Ghanaian Capital Accra, Coledic (Communication Learning Difficulties and Counselling Centre) is the first institution in Ghana offering services for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN), in particular those who are facing learning, language, and social challenges. Since its establishment in 2007 by the Dutch educationalist Sigrid Kootstra, they have been providing a highly supportive educational environment. With the benefit of a low student/teacher ratio, they are able to address the specific educational and therapeutic needs of each child and through this can build confidence and competence in each individual.

Teacher and StudentThe institute offers workshops and training possibilities for teachers and schools, to enable them to guide and assist SEN students, who have experienced little or no success in the traditional school setting, to gain their full potential.  Diversity is encouraged, with students from all backgrounds being welcomed and a wide range of enrichment activities such as sports, music and drama being included in the curriculum.  Coledic makes available additional support for those students who require extra help with their studies, in a friendly, caring and safe environment.
